Here it is Tuesday, and I met 3 other guys and we went to Port Levaca to play golf. Cold when we left, but after about 45 min drive it was 67 deg when we got there. Sunny skies and the wind was pretty calm. We teed off and the course was above average. Only 9 holes, but we played 18 from other tees on the back nine. Interesting course- nice tees, and greens but very rough fairways as the wild hogs and had their dinners looking for grubs and things under the grass. It is very dry here and ground was very hard- made for long drives as the ball would bounce seemingly another 20 yds if hit right. greens were hard, too and did not make it easy to stick the ball to stay on the green surface. Learned it was better to bounce the ball short of the greens and let it roll on. One of the guys hit all his shots cross handed. Never heard of that. Seen cross handed putters, but not drivers. He hit the ball hard and far. I had a good day. Sank an admirable putt of about 30 yds, downhill and slanted to the left. Made the day all worthwhile. we all had a beer in the clubhouse when we finished and had a nice ride home. We were told not to look in the rough too much for lost balls as there are rattle snakes lurking.
One interesting thing on the way home was a fish hatchery consisting of about four lakes with sheep grazing on the land between the lakes and one donkey. I asked what the purpose of the donkey was and was told that donkeys were guards for the sheep. Wolves and coyotes hate donkeys and won't go near them as they are a threat to attack them. Who knew?
