Yesterday's adventures....Judy's thoughts

We are still learning how to post on this thing....and thought that Mike's thoughts on yesterday would be above the pics if we posted it after we posted the pics...but alas...he wrote it last night...and even though we saved it and did not post it until after the pics, it is below the pics....so read his thoughts on yesterday too...oh faithful and wonderful readers of this blog!!

We did take off yesterday AM for trip south along the coast. Gorgeous day...sunny and about 75 degrees...but wickedly windy! We drove about 45 minutes to Aransas Pass and then out over the flats to the place to take the ferry over. Had to wait about 45 minutes for a ferry ride which took about 10 minutes! But was free! Port Aransas was very cute...lots of beach houses and waterfront restaurants and we were starving. Found a nice place...but the food actually was not as good...and was pricier... than what we had had right here the other day! Then we drove south on Mustang Island until it became Padre Island...drove a bit into the National Seashore until we found that it was pretty much just like the beaches on Mustang Island. Looked wonderful for a hot and not windy day! Very broad and packed white sand. Then crossed over a bridge to Corpus Christi and came back through that town.

My impressions were that the islands are not nearly as developed as Florida...some huge fancy beach homes and condos...but lots of empty space. And everything is very, very brown cause they are in a terrible drought here....so not green and lush at all here. Port Aransas was really a cute town. Lots of fancy wonderful boats! Corpus Christi is not very big...a very small downtown area with just a few high rises...but mostly lots of urban sprawl type areas. We did find an antique shop to explore there and Mike found out where the other shops are and how to get to them. We may go back but it was getting late in the day by then and they were starting to close. We may go back to tour the aircraft carrier, Lexington, which is berthed there too. We hit another antique shop on the way back and bought a little acrylic painting of a scene with bluebonnets, which we sure do hope we see! They are suppose to come in the beginning of March. Out on the beach we bought some tee shirts for the grand kids and I found a cute silver, abalone and mother of pearl ring for $4 for me! It was a fun day!!

  1. The code for photos always goes to the top of the template. If you want to post above the photos, just space them down a line, and start typing. If posting a series of photos that have an order, put your last one in first so it will appear at the bottom of the series.

Visiting antique shops. A busman's holiday?
